We’ve come a long way baby. Hybrid golf clubs, adjustable drivers and wedges,
and golf iron sets that look nothing like the mashies of old. You want options?
We’ve got them, from Callaway, to Ping, Titleist, Adams, Wilson, TaylorMade,
Tour Edge and many more, they are all here and Austad’s is one of the few
authorized internet retailers for all of them. The question is, which is right
for you? A couple of suggestions, from a guy who has sold over a half a million
golf clubs and sets, to think about for your game, and to match the golf club
set to the way you play.
There are three general categories of golfers club makers think about when they
are designing a set or golf club. The game improvement golfer is probably an 18
handicap plus, with inconsistent results and usually some difficulty getting the
ball airborne. If this is you, Cleveland, Adams, Callaway, and Tour Edge, just
to name a few, have golf sets with more hybrids, a larger club face, and more
forgiving lofts.
You might be at the opposite extreme. About 5% of golfers are considered
“player” clubs. These are golfers in the 0 to 8 handicap range that hit the golf
ball pretty much in the same spot every time. They are looking for feel and the
ability to work the golf ball (fade or draw). Titleist, Tour Edge Exotics, and
many of the majors like TaylorMade and Callaway have golf clubs specifically for
you. They have smaller faces, cleaner cavities, and woods that allow you to work
the golf ball.
That leaves a whopping 50% of the market in the middle. 8 to 18 handicappers,
they want some forgiveness, but don’t need 5 hybrid clubs in their bag. There
are plenty of options here too. In fact, since your group represents half the
market, every manufacturer has something for you. Austad’s has the selection,
and many are discounted golf clubs to save you money.
So figure out what type of golfer you are, and find the golf equipment right for
you. You might as well use the technology the manufacturers are giving you,
chances are everyone else in your foursome is.
